Tax dodge 'cost B60bn'

The state has lost 60 billion baht of revenue due to import tax evasion by influential car dealers over the past four years, deputy permanent secretary of the Justice Ministry Dusadee Arayawuthi says.

Mr Dusadee, who presented his findings to the Senate sub-committee on graft investigation yesterday, said they were the same old three to four parties that had managed to evade car import duty since 2008.

He said the tax evaders have imported about 10,000 cars a year with over 1 million baht lost in import duties per vehicle. Total lost revenue is estimated at 60 billion baht.

I have read elsewhere that the English must be complicit in this racket. It could be true but it could also be fellow Thais living in England. Let's not forget that Thais CAN buy businesses, Land and even a house in England. Unlike here.

If it were not for the corrupted customs official, none of this would have happened. I say throw them behind bars for x number of years, I bet they will start talking who these influential figures are in return for reduce sentence. Sadly most will not be discipline and will be simply transferred or put on inactive duty.
