Parks dept plans Phuket land theft crackdown

The National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department says it will inspect 3,000 rai of encroached land at Sirinath National Park in Phuket at the end of this month.

Reungchai Prayoonvej, acting chief of the department, said he has called 366 teams of officials from 16 conservation and management areas nationwide to discuss the laws involved to make sure they fully understand the case.

After the meetings on Oct 24-25, the department will send 120 of the teams to inspect land plots.

    All cases should be sent to court for prosecution, land deeds revoked with fines and jail terms for all land-grabbers. Resorts and illegal properties will have to be razed and lands replanted by forest trees.
