Pheu Thai sues Dems for MIB claims

The Pheu Thai Party on Wednesday filed a complaint with Lumpini police accusing Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva and four other party members of defamation in accusing former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra of being behind the men in black during the 2010 political riots.

The complaint was filed by Pheu Thai spokesman Prompong Nopparit against Mr Abhisit, Surat Thani MP Suthep Thaugsuban, Democrat deputy leader Korn Chatikavanij, Rayong MP Sathit Pitutecha and Songkhla MP Sirichok Sopha.

Mr Prompong said he was authorised by Thaksin to file the complaint against the five who, in their speech at a Democrat Party rally at Lumpini Park on Oct 13, accused the former prime minister of "taking command of the men in black and the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) protests between April 14, 2009-May 19, 2010".

Pheu Thai is not the aggrieved person in this case. Thaksin is, and he's overseas and has his own lawyers. How can this political party bring this charge on his behalf when they deny he runs everything? This is yet another frivolous lawsuit intended to clog up the courts and disrupt the judicial system.

Lets see here, first Thaksin threatens to sue, but in order to do that he would have to appear in court. So he gets his puppets to file a suit. But as Thaksin is the one being allegedly slandered, what grounds do the PTP have for suing? Are they going to admit in open court, that Thaksin is their leader and that they, the PTP, were involved in all the decision making processes at Ratchaprasong and therefore have also been defamed by the DEMs. Sounds like a slippery slope they are starting down.

Thaksin HAD to file this complaint. It's the S.O.P. of all Thai politicians.

If he HADN'T filed it would have shown tacit agreement of the statements.

Sadly in Thailand it doesn't matter if the statements are true (and what right minded individual believes Seh Daeng acted without Thaksin's guidance?), a guilty verdict could come back simply because the statements damaged Thaksin's reputation.

Why doesnt Thaksin file his own charge if he is so bent out of shape ? Oh ya hes hiding from his crimes .So cowardly .

"taking command of the men in black and the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) protests between April 14, 2009-May 19, 2010."

    - If this is the point they claim to be defamatory, then they have already lost the case. While it may be difficult to prove Thaksin's link to the men in black, there is no doubt about his link to the UDD (does he not have copies of his phone-ins - I'm sure he's watching them all the time).
    - Based on recent court replies, the court may just say "sorry, you are not the one who's affected" and throw the case out
    - And what can happen to a politician with immunity if convicted for defamation? Ask Jatuporn and some other Phuea Thaksin members, they have plenty of experience with it.

The Dem followers will never believe even the courts
