Cambodia calls for calm on photo gaffe

The Cambodian government has called for restraint from its people in the wake of an incident in which a Channel 3 reporter stood over photos of Norodom Sihanouk, the deceased former king of Cambodia.

The Cambodian Prime Minister's Office said in a statement released yesterday that all Cambodian people should avoid ill-intentioned attempts by some political groups to use the case to stir instability in the country and rifts with neighbouring countries.

A picture of Thapanee Eadsrichai standing over photos of the late royal drew criticism from both Cambodians and Thais.

I like the Cambodian government reaction. Why should such a small detail, deliberate or not, be the source of animosity between Thais and Khmers. Let's move on and show some magnanimous gesture towards people who, at all cost, are trying to destroy the yet fragile good relationship between the two counties. Thailand and Cambodia are both devoted Buddhist countries and should learn what Buddha forgiving teaching taught us. Besides it is not time for Cambodia to lose the focus on the mourning process. Let not play the game of some ill-intentional people.

This incident should be treated as a lesson learned for all Thai reporters.

It is not difficult to trace the photo's original source.

Thai and Cambodian should live together as brother and sister and respect each other as neighbor.
Historically speaking Thai's King used to foster and help Khmer's monarch to survive during the turmoil time of late 18th century. For instance our King Ang Duong was an abbot of Wat Bovonivet in Bangkok studying pali with King Mongkut the great. He was sent to Cambodia with big garrison of Thai soldier to reign in the kingdom and that king who brought Buddhist Sangha Thammiyuth to Cambodia.Thai should act like American and England, they are friend forever. If Thai and Khmer live side by side respect and help each other, we are prosperous and happy
