Netizens warned against 'liking' photo

Thai web users have been warned against sharing or "liking" the controversial picture of a Thai reporter standing near a photo of the late Cambodian king visible in a newspaper placed on the ground.

Information and communication technology (ICT) permanent secretary Chaiyan Peungkiatpairote warned that anyone doing so may be in breach of the computer crimes law.

At a press conference on Friday he appealed to the Thai social network users not to forward or click “like” on the photo or messages associated with it, saying doing so may lead to conflict between the two countries.

He thinks he can say what Thai or foreign residents can or cannot do regarding social media worldwide- so today Cambodian - next week China or the British Virgin Islands !!!

This also implies he is spying on everyone's social media accounts.

How out of touch with reality is Chaiyan.

Five years imprisonment for 'liking' something on a social media site that may threaten national security. Might have to start building a few new jails to cater for the next generation of internet users.

Well done Thailand two steps forward & one step backwards!

This attention to images can have strange results. Take the case where I accidentally drop a Thai currency note, and it blows away in the wind, I chase it and trap it with my foot. Oh dear, I have trodden on the King's picture! What would a Thai do in this situation?

"liking" a photo, does not necessarily mean, 'liking' what is shown, let alone agreeing with any opinion that was intended to be expressed be making/publishing such picture.

Professing themselves to Be Wise they Became Fools... Again, so much publicity for nothing.

Although I DON'T like the photo, I would click like if I did like it. I don't see a leghal basis for this - let's call it what it is - intimidation. There certainly is a limit to what we, the people accept from those who are appointed to represent us and defend our rights.

So I can be politically correct:

Could someone please tell me what I should do with old newspapers after I have read them?

Certainly don't want to upset anyone!
