Disc 11, bedouin: I believe you fail to place things within the proper perspective. Yes, there's strict building codes in your country and I agree with those codes because safety is of the utmost importance. In this case, there are valid questions to be answered. i.e., was the parking garage barrier sufficently constructed? Did the parking garage floor covering meet (R-rating) resistance specifications? Did the vehicle start sliding due to a slick surface within the parking garage?

Evidently, this lady walked to the car, started the engine and was driving from the parking garage when she lost control of the car and hit the barrier. After hitting the barrier, she must have then placed the car in park. Seconds after that, the barrier collapsed. The forward weight of the car caused the car to slide/fall forward and onto the bottom floor where it landed. It appears, the barrier she hit was poorly constructed. With the gearshift placed in park, with drive-train locked, the car could only slide/move forward if on a forward slope. I would also be checking to see if non-skid flooring was installed in the parking garage.

Disc9, perhaps you are new here? Suing and countersuing and counter-counter-suing is a major part of life in Thailand, as most any day's newspaper headlines will indicate.

'(BMA) will also be contacted to inspect the building's car park layout and determine why the car collided with the concrete barrier and fell.'
Good idea! That must be where the problem is. Even if it were mechanical failure or driver error, the barrier should have been strong enough to prevent this.

We do not have all the investigative facts yet. And some jump to conclusions and suggest suing everyone from God on down! This sounds increasingly like the America I left to, hopefully, live in a more rational place. American tort law is founded upon this simple philosophy: for every wrong there must be a remedy. Anyone harmed is entitled to money as compensation. The world must be made risk free.

Thailand is NOT the developed world. It does not value or view things as does that other world. Why don't some of the commentators get used to that fact?

I strongly hope, that the police is investigating the car thoroughly. They should focus on possible excessive tyre wear, and look for traces at the front/rear of the car, as the car might had been pushed off the building. I have no other explanation, as the shift stick was engaged in P, and the handbrake locked, the locking of the handbrake probably the last thing the lady did in an attempt to save her own life.

Some people here suggest suing the building and the car manufacturer – how about suing the sales person and importer as well? If it was an accident then it should be invested what went wrong and IF there is a fault in the building or with the car THEN people can start thinking about suing people. Suing everyone first is the American way and we really don’t need that here.

If the car was with the gear box locked then it wouldn't take many clues to deside the promblem. Perhaps she had hit the wall and believing she was safe, put the gearbox in lock only to have the car tip over the edge? Perhaps an act of murder then the tyre marks upstairs will prove that, or perhaps something else?

Always a design flaw of someone else, never ever a thai person

Hilarious and sad at the same time, to see robertt, canuck, wvavin jump to conclusions while there is no clue at all as to what has happened.
