Surapong not aware of murder plot

Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul said he was not aware of the rumoured plot to assassinate fugitive former premier Thaksin Shinawatra during his coming trip to Myanmar.

Mr Surapong said on Monday he had heard nothing about such a plot from the government of Myanmar.

Panthongtae Shinawatra, Thaksin's son, said in a message on his Facebook page on Sunday that he had information from Thai border authorities that weapons and ammunition seized near the border by Thai troops would have been used to attack a pagoda in Tachilek where his father and red-shirt supporters will attend a merit-making event.

Is there anything Surapong DOES know about? Answers on the back of a postage stamp please!

If Thaksin just would just serve his prison term, then he would be safe from "rumors". Criminals are normally safe in a Thai prison.

Considering Thailand's history, where assassination of political rivals have been quite common, I would say that it is not really unlikely that powerful people would use their influence to get Thaksin out of the way for good.

So the "Thai border authorities" are in contact with Panthongtae. How many Pinocchio stars should we give this news?

Will this assassination attempt be the same as the previous ones? That is to say staged by the man himself for sympathy and publicity. Funniest one was when he got someone to drive a bomb around his house for hours until "caught".

Oh, really? Myanmar didn't tell Surapong about it. Does Surapong think that anybody who wanted to kill Thaksin would inform Myanmar about it?

His son said, is worth as much as his dad says. And making up this story is the simpliest thing in the world. I could post on my facebook page that my grandmother was billionnaire - and I wished she was, same as I wished the rumor was true.
