Order to strip Abhisit of rank signed

Defence Minister Sukumpol Suwanatat yesterday signed the order to strip Democrat leader Abhisit Vejjajiva of his military rank and recall his salary as proposed by the defence panel, it was reported Friday.

The committee, set up to investigate Mr Abhisit in connection with alleged draft-dodging, was chaired by deputy permanent secretary for defence Gen Prasobchai Kasemsant.

It ruled on Tuesday that Mr Abhisit used a fraudulent document in applying for and obtaining a job as a lecturer at Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy - a position that exempted him from military conscription in 1987.

The only thing I understand is, that Khun Abhisit 'replaced' Khun T and now Khun Y is in charge --- but all the rest is certainly sheer coincidence ...

When AV first became Dem leader this story came up and if I remember correctly the army investigated and two junior officers were disciplined because it was found that they had provided AV with false documents. Whether AV new the documents were fake, or exactly what his roll in the affair was was not reported and the story died. Anybody else remember this?

Stop trying to muddy the water with other issues like censor debates etc. and just stick to the point either he dodged or he didn't. At this point the defense ministry seems to have the proof of guilt and Abhisit cannot come up with proof of innocence. This is an old case and the proof of innocence still has not surfaced.

Oh how the winds of fame and fortune are ever changing. While the timing might be political in nature, you did not hear any denials from Abhisit of the facts.

These "politically motivated" attacks are fairly common from all sides. However, the real problem is not the motivation of the accusations; it is that so many of the accused are actually guilty.

"ACM Sukumpol insisted on Thursday that there was hidden political agenda behind the move, as alleged." So, ACM Sukumpol ADMITS there was a HIDDEN POLITICAL AGENDA behind the move to strip Abhisit Vejjajiva of his military rank??? Still waiting on the Thai Police to strip Mr. T. of his police rank, based upon an actual conviction in the courts.

It does seem rather petty, particularly after all these years. But then Mark has rather set himself up to be taken down a peg or two. Even so, it would be good if both sides could rise above this sort of thing, but I guess that simply won't happen in the present climate of tit-for-tat politicking

I'm not against the ministry pursuing Abhisit for draft dodging, but because this practice is so prevalent; they should investigate and prosecute those amongst PT ranks, corporate leaders and the general populace as well. If not, this will appear politically motivated.

"ACM Sukumpol insisted on Thursday that there was hidden political agenda behind the move, as alleged."

As much as I wish the minister had made such an admission, I rather suspect a Freudian typo on the part of the BP writer.

The Puea Thaksin regime has signed it's own death sentence.
