Neighbours battle 'drug centre' label

SPECIAL REPORT: The govt is creating jobs and taking abusers to rehab in a bid to end trafficking

Residents in the Musjid Ban Somdej community in Thon Buri are determined to fight back against their neighbourhood being branded a major drug trafficking area in Bangkok.

About 100 youngsters from this Muslim community were sent to drug rehabilitation centres last year and half of them who completed compulsory rehabilitation programmes have now returned home but are still being watched closely by authorities.

    Poverty is a sure route into crime but from a community of 200 households 100 youths were sent to drug rehab?, do you have any figures from the non Muslim communities in that area.
