Smuggled booze seized from train

Hundreds of cartons containing smuggled Scotch whisky have been seized from a train at Ratchaburi railway station.

The swooped on the shipment after receiving information that a large quantity of smuggled goods were being moved on an train scheduled to make a stop there. The raid was supported by the Ratchaburi provincial governor.

At least 50 customs officers boarded three trains after they stopped at the station --  Special Express 36 Butterworth-Bangkok, Special Express 170 Sungai Kolok-Bangkok, and Special Express 172 Yala-Bangkok - to conduct searches.

    The 50 customs agents had to wait for an extra 6 hours because the train was late. Now really, 50 officers to intercept 1,000,000 baht of goods. That is roughly $33,000, hardly a major caper.

    500 cartons/cases @12 = 6000 bottles., I think it is worth more than 1.0 million baht tag.
    if it is 6000 bottles, it really seems to be more of a counterfeit operation product than authentic.
