Protestant church vandalised in Udon Thani

UDON THANI - A group of men broke into a three-storey protestant Christian church in Nong Wua So district on Wednesday and vandalised it, in a dispute that apparently centres on local Buddhists’ resentment over the church’s growing influence in the area, the Daily News website reported.

A number of villagers have reportedly converted to Christianity since the church was opened there three years ago.

bkk-farang, the evangelists are, in a lot of cases, "aggressive" in signing up followers, but does it excuse ransacking their place of worship?

I don’t know what happened in this case but I know that in some places Christian evangelists are very aggressively signing up people for their religion as if they would get a premium from someone for each new church member. I would like to read some comments from the Udon Thani people why at least some of them hate the evangelists - maybe they have good reasons.

The vandals claime to be Buddhist laymen, but there is nothing Buddhist about their actions. They act like they are under the influence of Mara (a Buddhist personification of evil)

Usually Christians and Buddhist goes along very well together, no theological conflicts exits.

The perception is quickly becoming that Isaan people have zero tolerance for anything that they disagree with or they don;t get money from. I know many farang that feel this way.

It all comes down to money as sadly does most everything here now.

This goes against everything positive about the Buddhist way of life. Although I disagree with most Catholicism hypocrisy, these Protestants are only trying to help, take note of the lack of monetary collections, and this is a sad reflection on some so called Buddhists in the area.

This act, if true, couldn't be further at variance with the dharma, the teachings of the Buddha. I would hope that the most senior representatives of the sangha, the community of Buddhist monks and nuns, will make this abundantly clear. If they do not, then Buddhism in Thailand is truly nothing but history.
