Court urged to speed dam protest case

Xayaburi dam opponents have asked the Central Administrative Court to conduct an emergency hearing in a bid to block the sale of electricity from the controversial Lao dam to Thailand.

Kraisak: Food security is key regional concern

Villagers from eight Mekong provinces petitioned the court in August to suspend the power purchasing agreement (PPA) signed by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) and the Xayaburi Power Company.

Yes this type of project has massive far reaching implications and need to take all into consideration not just as always the short term gain.Electricity seems to be the driver in this case.I wonder who stands to make the most money out of this project. Not the indigenous population I am guessing.

Ahh...that's how the government will ensure high rice prices in the coming years. By undermining regional food security, crippeling Cambodia's and Vietnam's rice production by supporting and financing the Xayaburi Dam. Great idea. The other ASEAN countries will just love Thailand and this government for it.
