Abhisit warns govt will be to blame if protest turns violent

Rumours swirl 'fake' reds will be used to stir chaos

Opposition and Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva is demanding the government take responsibility if violence erupts at the Pitak Siam anti-government rally this Saturday.

Mr Abhisit said Tuesday the government claimed it knew of some parties who planned to create untoward incidents during the protest and, if it was aware of this, then it should take action to prevent violence.

Mr Abhisit was referring to remarks by Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung and Lt Gen Paradon Pattanathaboot, secretary-general of the National Security Council (NSC), that thousands of "fake red shirts" might be used to create incidents during the rally.

Sad to see the representative of the political party which most Western us educated foreigners see as the better of 2 bad choices make a statement as ridiculous as that quoted in this story's headline.

50,000 has now become 5,000, and seemingly no explanation of, or questions about, the change? It is really difficult to trust reporting of numbers of any kind in the Thai press.

The usual claiming and blaming game to the point that one can't believe anything said by anybody. The only thing we can do is to hope that it will be peaceful and without casualties.

Personally I wouldn't want to disguise myself as a "fake red-shirt" and go into a crowd of 50,000 people. So I doubt that claim is true.

Shouldn't the Democrats be condemning a rally intended to incite violent overthrow of the democratically-elected government, instead of using it to score political party points?

Discussion 5 : the idea is not only to remove the government, it is also to bring the country for 5 years under a military regime. The statement of organizers of the rally is very clear : first topple the government and then "freeze" the country for 5 years.

All one has to do is imagine how AV would have answered to the same demands he is throwing at the government. Remember the idea here is to remove the government so anything is possible especially from those desperate. History tells us how this works.

Whats wrong with that, they are Thai people..from where did the red shirts brought their protesters in 2010???.
