Police crack down on Nor Kham-linked gang

Raids in Chiang Rai net B500m in speed, assets

Police have cracked down on a major gang linked to alleged Golden Triangle drug lord Nor Kham, seizing speed pills and assets worth about 500 million baht.

A combined force of officers from the Office of the Narcotics Control Board and local police Tuesday raided five locations in three districts of Chiang Rai which were believed to have been used for storing the illegal drugs.

One of the spots searched was a house of 60-year-old Jamras Sompongpan, formerly known as Olarn Phajaroen, police said.

Like Dis2, I would be interested to know what happens to the drugs once they have been seized. There have been major drug arrests nearly every month with millions of drugs being seized. Where do they transport these drugs to? Do they have a central secure warehouse to store them in? Are they kept in multiple locations?

Another question that is always on my mind. Is they always seems to arrests the dealers. But don't the police follow-up on the investigation to go up the further up the ladder to catch the real culprits and the Mr Bigs who seem to enjoy immunity against prosecution?

Just curious, what does the Thai police do with all the drugs they have seized? I mean just the past 2 or 3 years alone they have seized billions of baht worth of drugs, but I have never seen or heard anything like burning the drugs, how they get rid of it, etc. Does anyone really know?

Good result for the Police and the Office of the Narcotics Control Board. Perhaps some of the local and national "Mr Bigs" will be swept up too though I will hold my breath on that one, for a short while anyway.
