#15, i confirm what you say about the French TGV. Really very speed (320 km/h and record 575 km/h) and totally Safe (no one dead since 31 years), stations inside the cities. Imagine CM/Udon/ to BKK in 2h30. That the end of the centralization sclerosing Thailand. Anyway it's very heavy infrastructures with special lines. And the airline lobby will be more than reticent. I don't talk about the corruption who can make such a project catastrophic.

@ D15 Flippogirl; I can not speak for everyone, however I will say this. Most companies and I am sure as with it is the same with the one you work for as well, have standards both in building and safety. And I am sure that the product that your company turns out is of the highest quality and built to last and within proper time frames, not built quickly nor built cheaply to cut labor costs and for profit. The Chinese, unfortunately, do not tend to share that sentiment, as is evident both within their own country and the products they build elsewhere. So the problem lies not with other rail building companies but with Chinese ones.

There should be rail links to the ports and to Issan as well as the eastern seaboard and the south .Not just links to China .These links help Thailand not just China .

Interesting that everybody now is an expert on high speed rail.

Contrary to what has been stated on this forum, High Speed rail is highly efficient and cost effective, and last, but not least, much cleaner for the environment.
Also the fact that air travel doesn't need maintenance? What about the regular maintenance on airplanes?
The French high speed rail is the best developed in the whole world, and I guarantee it makes money. It has taken a lot of people flying short haul routes.

And before anybody complains, I work for one of the world leading firms in High Speed rail.

The start of Chinizing Thailand. Fast entry from China by train, built by Chinese, teaching Chinese instead of the so much needed English, controlling the Mekong waterflow by building dams, more business investments meaning more Chinese control... Is'nt one China Town in Bangkok enough? Thailand be carefull...

Not too long ago the Chinese government built a hospital in Kabul, Afghanistan. It turned out that the hospital is closed because it is falling apart due to poor workmanship. The walls were filled with styrofoam and air-conditioning compressors were installed inside the room. The Chinese, if allowed, will build it and quickly too. But you get what you paid for. Start praying for the ones that will use the high speed rail as well as the ones living close to it.

Riddle me this Batman??? Chinese safety rules are pretty much non existent, just look at how many accidents and deaths they have had in their own country. And the many hospitals they built elsewhere that cost millions and are unusable due to safety issues and massive leakage. Now you want to let them build a high speed railway in Thailand!! Maybe it will take a few thousand deaths on the rail system before Thailand wakes up and realizes Chinese standards of manufacturing are 0% and made as cheap as you can get. Do I need to mention those 10,000 baht useless computers for schools??? Enough said.
