PM: Law, order must stand

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra Thursday night appeared on national television to brief the public on reasons behind the government’s decision to impose the Internal Security Act, saying law and order must be preserved.

The announcement was broadcast via the Television Pool of Thailand shortly before 9pm, with English translation text on the screen.

The prime minister said the ISA is effective from Thursday until Nov 30, covering the rally of the Pitak Siam group and rallies by pro-government groups. She insisted public gatherings and protests must be peaceful, without the use of weapons and within the boundaries of the law.

"DICK D1: The military refused to obey the law when they overthrew the elected government in 2006. Had they respected "law and order" the forst ever people's constitution would not have been torn up by them and all the consequent violence"
If the reds had accepted the early election that the Dems offered and left the protest site then the problems of people getting shot and bombed and buildings burnt then there would not have been the the consequent violence.
BOTH sides and I mean BOTH sides are at fault here. PLS understand that.

Right now madam PM. Put your well founded claims to be fair and justified by condemning the red shirts for there unpeaceful and armed insurrections in 2009 and 2010. Then people might start to listen. Thankyou.

'... the democratic system in which freedom of expression should be carried out in the parliament, where the people’s representatives settle differences in viewpoints and resolve political conflicts'.

Very limited view attempting to reinforce the idea that (her brother's) so called reconciliation bills can be passed in Parliament without pubic consultation.

Provoking the crowd in any way possible and then asking for law and order. What she said is in contradiction to the ruling of the constitution court. I would not be surprised anymore, if this protest really gets out of control and the PM is forced to dissolve the house.

I think Yingluck is woman in power, and woman in control, and has Girl Power. She is pretty, intelligent and do have integrity. I suppport her, and I am hope that Apisit will show integrity also, by show support for Democracy also, and say that he is against a coup and pitak Siam group.

Why do people in the comments keep saying that PT won the last election fairly? Did PT get the most votes? Yes they did. Was the last election or any of the previous ones where TRT or PT won fair and legit? Hardly.

It makes me think most foreigners commenting on here haven't been in the country long and think of themselves as experts on the subject.

I don't post here a lot but what I do see all the time is people claiming that everyone should give up fighting PT because the last election was "fairly" won. Democracy? The people hold no power. This is not a Democracy. They only get to vote for who will rule and dictate their lives.

As my Thai wife, a former Thaksin voter pointed out Yingluck won a free and fair auction.Everyone of her friends who voted for P T received 500 baht for doing so.

This isn't meant to sound ignorant, but it seems that all that is going on here is a broadcast to the nation to inform about the need for peaceful demonstrations, after the tragedies of 2010 it is probably a tiny bit more reassuring for those who did get hurt then or could get hurt in such events / rallies in future.
The ethics and double standards politicians display are a disgrace i agree, as is the blatant arrogance with which some are seen to personify.. The country needs unity however and it won't be achieved by petty spats about by gones and the colour of shirts. A useful peaceful demonstration might be a step

RE: D1... the question is did they win a fair election? and the answer is yes they did. If you do not accept that you do not accept Democracy. The ISA is not stopping lawful assembly it is to stop unlawful acts from taking place.
