Senators warn of rice scheme debt crisis

The Senate has warned the rice-pledging scheme could sink the nation deeper into debt.

Senators told a general debate yesterday they believe the government is trying to conceal its mistake by keeping its attempts to export pledged rice a secret.

The Senate started its debate on the government's performance yesterday.

@Disc 26 - People who make money during the DEM Rice Policy is the same as PTP's policy. Do you honestly think the top 5 rice millers change just because of a government change?

For a commodity item like rice. You calculate the market value based on present day prices, NOT the price you bought or sold for. If you bought shares of Apple for $700, but the present day value is $570, do you still think your share is worth $700?

Why not put about 20%-30% of Singha ingredient with rice to make a new beer. Why not put about 40% of rice flour to bake bread. Reduce wheat and use more rice!

Senator Paibul Nititawan is right. I cant wait to see how the PT worm their way out of this one.

Isaan holds the key to election victory which is why TS has always targeted farmers, and this scheme was a pure vote buying policy that gave rice farmers no choice but to vote PT. The experts, and anyone with half a brain cell, warned of the many problems this scheme would bring, and they've all come true. You've got to hand it to TS, he wins the election by giving farmers a 40% pay rise paid for by those that oppose him.

The rice plan used by the previous government was ditched and now we have a new one. It seems those who use to make money on the old rice plan now are without and are making big noise. It is all about who is not getting their share of the rice sales now. How can you loose money on an item you haven't even sold yet.

Thailand's pride in being the best rice producer in the world is marred in secrets and corruption pushing the value of Thai rice below India, Vietnam and others. It is a secret because there is no commodity on earth you can buy for 33% for than the going market price and not lose money. If it looks like, acts like and smells like corruption, it is corruption plain and simple. The taxpayers need to wise up it is there money being wasted and when the government runs out of money, TAXES will rise and the innocent will pay even more

May be he means if we do not sell it it remains an asset but at a value fixed by him.The problem with that is it is over valued and deteriorating, rotting in warehouses. The next government will pick up the bill not this one.
