The Justice Ministry plans to build a national DNA database to help police solve crime, identify suspects and bring them to justice.

Justice permanent secretary Kittipong Kityarak co-signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the ministry and the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for a joint effort to build the first DNA database in Thailand.

The ministry aims to collect DNA samples from 100,000 volunteer prisoners over three years, Mr Kittipong said on Monday.

DNA is a ‘tool’, when used correctly by honest people for the betterment of the public it is a good thing. In the hands of Thai police it will open a whole new world of corruption with planted “evidence” taken as indisputable fact. The databases are supposed to be accessible to all countries in the program. Thailand should first draw samples from its politicians and police.

The police will need to be a great deal more clinical at crime scenes instead of letting any one and his dog wonder about the place pollute the evidence.They cannot enforce a simple law like wearing crash helmets.Who came up with this one, volunteering to have your DNA taken and put on some database that is wide open to abuse and corruption.

All PAD,ex PAD's,anyone who owns a yellow T shirt or is a Democrat is to report to their nearest police station for swabbing immediately.

All red shirts do not need to report. Jautporn volunteered to be the nguthadlong. His DNA will be the representative sample for all reds including co-comrade members residing overseas.

What is a 'volunteer prisoner'? Not guilty but in need of somewhere to sleep?

I can imagine how voluntary the process will be.
