Prayuth says ICC should have no say over clashes

Army chief Prayuth Chan-ocha has voiced opposition to the possibility of the International Criminal Court (ICC) having jurisdiction over the 2010 clashes between security forces and red-shirt protesters.

Prayuth: Country can solve own ills

He said the country's three branches of power _ judicial, executive and legislative _ could handle the country's internal affairs.

Here is something people need to know first. There is a good reason why under the Thaksins administration they did not ratify the ICC treaty. Ironic the PTP is calling for the ICC to investigate which they don't have authority to.

If their is nothing to hide I do not see a problem and also without another level of investigation this will go on and on doing irreparable damage to the country's reputation.

Top level government decisions rest with te PM and cabinet ministers, not the army commander. The army chief takes only an executive role instead of making major decisions on defence and internal affairs.

Everyone clearly understands that those people afraid of ICC are bad people having many things covered up. Those bad people clearly understand that ICC, if accepted by Thailand, will demand all the truths to be revealed.

There's no chance that the ICC will become involved; It's all merely PTP/UDD huffing and puffing. If the ICC accepted the role (which is unlikely) then ALL particpants in the 2010 armed uprising would be subject to close scrutiny, including the mastermind abroad, which could prove embarrassing, to say the least.

Prayuth "Gen Prayuth said the military was the country's mechanism to solve its own problems."

thats why Thailand has been in such a mess, because the military has usurped civilian democratic authority whenever they feel like it.

Prayuth and his mates need to attend Democracy 101, probably starting at kindergarten level, hardly ready for advanced college and university level thinking!

It is only natural that he is against this, he was in charge of the army at the time.
