Cop caught "asking for tea money" (video)

BANGKOK: A video clip of a traffic police officer trying to collect "tea money" from a motorist was posted on YouTube and drew many negative comments against the police by Thai netizens.

The video was uploaded by a YouTube channel user named hatethaipolice on Thursday.

In the clip, the motorist was stopped by the officer, presumably somewhere in Bangkok.

@tau #19, you write: “If i am met with agresion i will show agresion.”
Do you think that is a sensible solution? Till now the police stopped me at least 30 times. Most of the time I take it easy and they take it easy. We both know it’s a game and we all smile. A few times I was upset and I showed them I was upset, but still in a reasonable tone and with no bad language. I am not sure what would happen if you swear at them and tell them in plain language what you think about them. And I am not sure if you would survive to tell your story...

Do they have shares in the police collecting money?I refuse to pay anymore,If i am met with agresion i will show agresion.

BKK D17: QUite true, they cannot confiscate the same thing twice!

BEN D15: I agree with you the police are under paid. But excusing low-level corruption because of it is simply wrong.

After all, the police arrest people all the time for petty crimes and those are usually from the poorer sectors of society.

Nobody says: "The thief was poor so let us understand and get him a job".

If they did say that, society would be getting better.

@abbub #1: Yes, they will take away your driver license and you have to pick it up later at the police station. But you can drive without license from that moment on. I did this once for months and every time the police stopped me I showed them the paper which they gave me the first time. And I never had to pay again because they could not confiscate my license a second time. :)
Later I learned that I should have picked up my license at the station after a week or so. I picked it up after months – same fine.

Some years ago I paid regularly 100B with a bike. Recently I try to ignore them and drive away from them as much as possible. They bothered only one time to try to follow me and then it cost me 200B.

Obviously shocking ...but so little compared to white collar corruption which accounts in Billions. It's relatively well known police is notoriously underpaid. If people taxes were not sucked up by high level corruption, there would be a chance to give policemen a decent wages...

Every day I go out I'm prepared to be pulled over for some ridiculous offence such as using the underpass or flyovers, why motorcycles are banned from these I have no idea, being stopped simple because I'm driving a motorcycle is normal.

Discussion 7 bob : nobody is being forced to ride on a taxi driven by a misbehaved taxi driver. You can always leave the taxi you feel discontent.
