Government bristles at OIC resolution

Islamic group calls peace efforts in South 'meagre'

Thailand is upset with the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation's (OIC) resolution that the kingdom has made little progress in addressing unrest in the deep South.

The country's position was stated publicly yesterday by Vice Foreign Minister Jullapong Nonsrichai, who attended the OIC foreign ministers' meeting in Djibouti on Nov 15-17 as an observer.

If you read the full statement from the OIC you will see that it does not single out the present government for criticism, it is criticises all recent governments for not doing more to implement the 2007 Agreed Joint Statement.

Start talking and negotiate force has not worked because unless you do you will take Thailand down the slippery slope America finds itself in in all its conflicts,the looser.
A big mistake by the PM to putting the defence minister in charge it will only escalate the problem
we have seen his lack of negotiation skills recently.

Dis#11 Malaysia has never wanted to incorporate the Southern provinces. Like what Dis#5 said, it's a local problem that need a local solution. The government needs to improve its intelligence. So far, the co-ordination among security agencies is poor. The insurgents have better intelligence about Thai authority.

PT has no idea or interest in the south as it isnt their voter base .I pity the people of the south .Its hard to imagine how it must feel to walk out your door in the morning with really good odds you might not come back .

My goodness, by describing the “zero” lack of improvement in the battle torn south of Thailand by using the word "meager" instead of "zero" the Thai Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul threatens IOC with, . . . “we might not cooperate with it in the future”. If the word “meager” is bothersome, ask for some honest answers from Thai monks, Thai nurses, Thai teachers and innocent Thai citizens in the area. They are not battling “words” but “bullets’ and “bombs”. Wake up!

Good write the protest letter. Thailand shouldnt be dictated to by the OIC anyway. Oh and tell the OIC to come here and meet with the terrorist

How about more cooperation from the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. Surely they would hold more persuasive powers with their brethren committing the murder and mayhem in the south than Thai government representatives.

There is no doubt many faults can be found with Thailand's approach to the situation, but to criticise the fact that not enough local language is being taught without any condemnation of the fact that teachers are being killed and classrooms burnt down takes the sting out of any valid criticism. Makes the OIC look like just another political organisation with no real concern for the people it represents.
