Islamic group calls peace efforts in South 'meagre'

Thailand is upset with the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation's (OIC) resolution that the kingdom has made little progress in addressing unrest in the deep South.

The country's position was stated publicly yesterday by Vice Foreign Minister Jullapong Nonsrichai, who attended the OIC foreign ministers' meeting in Djibouti on Nov 15-17 as an observer.

My goodness, by describing the “zero” lack of improvement in the battle torn south of Thailand by using the word "meager" instead of "zero" the Thai Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul threatens IOC with, . . . “we might not cooperate with it in the future”. If the word “meager” is bothersome, ask for some honest answers from Thai monks, Thai nurses, Thai teachers and innocent Thai citizens in the area. They are not battling “words” but “bullets’ and “bombs”. Wake up!

If the terrorist would stop running amok killing and burning anything insight you might see some progress.

BP would do a service to explain a bit more about Defence Minister's new appointment - what does the security brief entail and how does it differ from what he would have been doing before by virtue of being responsible for armed force activities in the south? Last I heard the PM herself had taken charge of the south - does this order now basically delegate all that to the Defence Minister or only the security bit. I still think this cries out for a Minister (preferably non military/police) totally devoted to the south problems in all their aspects, and with no other duties to coordinate development and implimentation of the way forward

"He said Thailand felt disappointed with the OIC secretary office's use of the word "meagre" to describe the lack of progress in the Thai government's efforts to resolve the southern conflict."

The truth hurts doesn't. Time to get a wake up call and a dose of reality.

The OIC should be telling the insurgents to stop their stupid violence. And Malaysia could help the situation by firmly informing the insurgents that no matter what the eventual outcome of their efforts, the southern provinces will not be incorporated into Malaysia.

And can you point to anywhere where your comic book fantasies are actually being successful?

  • Discussion 8 : 30 Nov 2012 at 08.188

The OIC is correct in that the situation just continues with no resolution in sight, it offers criticism of the government yet offers none of its brethren indiscriminately murdering men, women and children. Dare one suggest it has a biased outlook?

If the PTP would ask for outside input, rather than "bristling" at the OIC's use of meager they might get somewhere. The PTP fantasize that their party has all the experts and all the solutions ... sorry but they don't. The PTP need to find people with experience for ministry posts, they need to ask for suggestions from the OIC, from the opposition, from outside experts, THEN use all suggestions to formulate policy.
