Swoop scoops iron ore store

About 2,800 tonnes of iron ore were seized from an Ayutthaya warehouse yesterday in a raid led by the Department of Special Investigation (DSI).

Pol Lt Col Somboon Sarasit, head of the DSI's Bureau of Special Crime 3, and Wandee Itthikorn, chief of Ayutthaya's Primary Industries and Mines Office, raided the Puay Heng Leng warehouse in Ayutthaya's Tha Rua district after learning the mineral had been illegally excavated and stored there.

According to Pol Lt Col Somboon, iron ore is being illegally excavated from deposits in Nakhon Sawan, Loei and Lop Buri. The mineral is then processed in Saraburi before being shifted to Ayutthaya.
