Dems demand proof Chinese rice deal exists

ENVOY THROWS DOUBT OVER AGREEMENT

The Democrat Party has demanded the government present documents to prove it has sealed a rice export deal with Beijing, after the Chinese ambassador to Thailand said the agreement had only been reached in principle.

The government has claimed it sold five million tonnes of pledged rice to China under a government-to-government (G-to-G) deal.

Democrat list MP Ong-art Klampaibul said the government must back its claims by producing copies of the G-to-G agreement contracts, customs export documents and receipts.

This leads to the big question what can be done to stop the rot.The answer is nothing because your MR average either dose not want to get involved or he is on the receiving end of the scam.

No big deal that the Yingluck government has boosted the state's rice inventory to more than 10 million tonnes after launching an unlimited pledging scheme, offering Bt15,000 per tonne, which is more than 33 per cent above the prevailing market price. So what if many BILLIONS of baht will be lost in this "find the pea under the shell" game. I am sure that some "friends of the family" are very thankful.

Ok, maybe this "Chinese deal" is just another little white lie to make everybody feel better. Everyone just needs to forget it and go on with your business because the government has it all under control.

In a country where logical thinking does not exist.
The red-shirts will defend this failed rice-pledging policy until everybody else accepts their opinion as the only correct one.
Because the red-shirt boss in Dubai has never ever in his whole life made any mistake in the red-shirts opinion.

@peterl: even you are right about ".. that it is in the country's interest to push these G-to-G rice deals through" your conclusion that everybody has to shut up about the involved corruption, money loss aso is .. unintelligent and dead wrong. Your arguments are exactly the kind of reasoning little children and PT use to deceive the also ..unintelligent public.

When people, organisations or governments are resistant to open transparent behavior it can only be there is something to hide.

This mob is actually very transparent in their deceit.

The wriggling and weaving over the facts would be hilarious if there not a serious issue to be adressed. The Man Abroad's original Rice Scheme was a financial failure but he's not likely to give up. His arrogance towards the country's needs ought to humiliate right-thinking PT members and politicos.

Do you really think the Chinese are going to pay more for something they grow themselves ?

Come on reds...start making tons of noise against Abhissit on his 25 year ago technicality.....and follow the strategy of your great fugitive master to try and shift all attention away from his cronies stealing the country dry via the rice scam.....

The reds on this forum are becoming increasingly desperate in defending this mad policy which is, as everybody already knows, only helping the millers, the middlemen and large landowners. And @Tabaluga D8 is absolutely right. Names were named, dates were given, in other words, it has become impossible to defend this disastrous policy.

One wonders whether the Democrats actually realize that it is in the country's interest to push these G-to-G rice deals through. Unilaterally setting unreasonable deadlines smacks of arrogance and a desire to pursue short-term political gain at any cost. I suspect the Democrats intemperate opposition style may well be strengthening the hands of the Chinese and other counter-parties in striking these G-to-G and other rice export deals.
