Dems demand proof Chinese rice deal exists

ENVOY THROWS DOUBT OVER AGREEMENT

The Democrat Party has demanded the government present documents to prove it has sealed a rice export deal with Beijing, after the Chinese ambassador to Thailand said the agreement had only been reached in principle.

The government has claimed it sold five million tonnes of pledged rice to China under a government-to-government (G-to-G) deal.

Democrat list MP Ong-art Klampaibul said the government must back its claims by producing copies of the G-to-G agreement contracts, customs export documents and receipts.

This is embarrassing for Thaksin. I expect that the Red Shirts will step up the anti-ammart rhetoric and increase the focus on the case against Aphisit over the next 3 weeks until the rally to deflect attention away from the rice scheme corruption. Perhaps the kamnan association has been instructed to assist him in this regard. It appears that the farmers value the extra few baht they are receiving more than they care about the amount being stolen from them and the negative effects on the country.

Finally the politicians are talking about facts. If our Thai government made some G-to-G deal(s) it should be easy for them to provide proof. These documents are brand new and not decades old so it should not be a problem at all to find and show them.
There is also no national security or so involved so there is no reason to make it a secret.
Come on PT, show us all the truth! Or was it all just another honest mistake or white lie?
Even the reds in this forum should not be afraid of facts, correct? Or is there something to hide?

canuck; Assuming that Abhisit did dodge the draft, it didn't involve taxpayer's money. Anyone could have forged papers to frame Abhisit.
You might also consider that it is this government who implemented the rice pledging scheme. Economists, DSI, academics along with the opposition have been warning them for months concerning the corruption. The government did nothing more than accusing the opposition of playing political games and trying to take the rice out of the poor farmers' mouths.
During the censure debate, evidences of foul play were brought to light including names of people and companies involved.

Disc 3 - You need to get this correct because you keep giving incorrect information. The Administrative court can only rule on procedural matters. They will rule if the DM can or can not strip Abhisit's rank, nothing more nothing less. They do not have jurisdiction to rule in Abhisit's guilt or innocence.

    canuck disc2
". I doubt there is as the Dems are still not naming names and that just means they are fishing."
Yet again you are spreading wrong information. I guess you have not watched the debate or don't understand Thai as the Dems have provided names, dates bank accounts etc.
The only one fishing here is you.

canuck, what do you mean "still not naming names" you obviously have problems reading, they named the company, the individuals involved in the company and even showed counter cheques!!! Please open your eyes and you will be able to see much better!!

What the polls say - Democrats be good, be sensible. Let the government do what they want as long as everyone makes money. The government is empowered with a huge majority, this majority does not mind corruption, they do not mind a criminal from overseas running the government, they do not mind the government sqeezing the press and media. Until you can match the number of reds who come out on the street at the mere sound of a whistle, you are history. Stop the Oxford way, try something new, demonstrations are fashionable across the world now.

canuck #1 Think before writing. Because it implicates Billions of Baht and ruining this country which is in absolutely no comparison with a draft dodging case which is contested in court. And for your info NON of your hero's ever served a day in the Army, everybody can pay a small sum to get "legally" out. Everybody knows that this is done on the Army's instigation, it happened to my son.

"He said the money to buy rice under the agreements had not been transferred by the Chinese government. Rather, he said, the money had originated in Thailand and was transferred through a Thai bank by a rice dealer who had re-circulated rice to benefit from the pledging scheme."

That's the dems way of doing things. They didn't report this to the proper authorities for an investigation they use it for political gain. They save it for the censure. Meanwhile the crook continues his deception unchecked. That is if their is any real proof. I doubt there is as the Dems are still not naming names and that just means they are fishing.

" Mr Ong-art claimed that efforts had been made to tamper with documents from a private Thai firm which had sold rice to China in a bid pass them off as G-to-G contracts."

So when Abhisit did this on his army papers it is OK with the Dems. So why can't the PT do it now? Make up your mind please.
