PM denies pongsapat picked for city race

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has denied knowledge of a report that the Pheu Thai Party is preparing to nominate deputy police chief Pongsapat Pongcharoen as its candidate in February's Bangkok governor election.

Ms Yingluck's response contradicts earlier comments by a Pheu Thai source who said the party had decided to field Pol Gen Pongsapat.

Current Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra's term will end in January. The city election is scheduled for Feb 17.
