Opposition to hand evidence of rice irregularities to NACC

The Democrat Party will submit evidence of alleged corruption in the government's rice pledging scheme to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) today.

Rice is piling up in warehouses across the country, and the Democrats have cast doubt on government claims of optimistic foreign sales. (Post Today photo)

Democrat list-MP Ong-art Klampaibul said Sunday that he and Warong Dechgitvigrom, Democrat MP for Phitsanulok, would represent the opposition in asking the anti-graft agency to investigate the allegations.

The whole country runs on corruption. 98% of the rich have made their money in corruption. There are very few, if any, world class business leaders in Thailand, yet so many rich politicians, Army and Police Generals. Money doesn't grow on tree's nor does it come in those huge amounts from government salaries. It is amazing that government administration after administration, the people of Thailand get poorer and less educated, all the politicians and their cronies get richer.

No court would find for the opposition without case iron evidence .Hopefully the lack of Chinese documents will prove an end to the whole thing although I doubt it will.

#1, with my other half a brain, i constate the dems fight the corruption at every level of government where they are not anymore at power. Out of polemic, i think the corruption must be a national cause, even if the Thais think it's inevitable or "acceptable" (it's certainly not). All the corruptions must be searched and sanctioned. Now it's just a political weapon but nobody really fight against this cancer and with such a complaisance.

ricefield Disc 2: I think the current administration is doom! Sorry, they could not answer the questions posed by the Dem. It turned out that the Dem questions were wrong to begin with because the administration could not come up with the answer. LOL!

D2@ricefield - the first line of this article says the Democrats will submit evidence to the NACC which is the proper authority to investigate corruption. The Oppositions job in a democracy is to hold the government to account - whether through a censure debate in Parliament or making their concerns known to the public through the press. The latter is a normal activity in a democracy, which usually only become 'playing politics' when one is on the defensive and the other side has a valid point

D2: The NACC is not the press. You only have to read the headline to realize that the Dems are actually going through the proper legal channels. They actually were kind enough to give the government a day to come clean with relevant documents. So far, they have failed to do so... Did they give any reasons?
As for the press, they are only doing their job, reporting political events among other things.

D2 Ricefields; the Democrats lost the vote in the censure because they are the minority in parliament and everyone votes along party lines, always. Doesn't mean they lost the debate. In fact, the Prime Minister and Peua Thai gave very vague answers on the corruption allegations, so it's time for a proper investigation, the numbers just don't add up, why won't the Govt allow an independent audit if this scheme is so wonderful.

It's relentless and almost daily regurgitation of the same news and statement by the DP to a point that it resemble the story of the boy who call wolf. DP has gone all length, even to the Constitution Court and nothing. It is so repeating and monotonous that readers are starting to treat this as trivial, stop believing and reading. We all do not want corruption but if the DP has no concrete proof of PT involvement, then redirect the corruption to the enforcement authority for the common good of all and not keep trying to link this to PT and score political points.

It is really time to put an end to the hide and seek games, the government is playing.
The people have a right to know how the government spends their money.
How can you bring about reconciliation if you keep on causing more conflicts?

The opposition, read Democrats, lost the vote in the Censure debate now they are demanding the government clarify more. Surprise, Surprise. If they have something solid they should put it forward to the proper authorities to move on it rather than use the press to play politics as they are doing. Problem is allegations and innuendo don't count for much in a courtroom even from the Democrats so that rout is out for them.
