Thailand 8th on global terrorism list

Thailand has been ranked eighth in a global list of countries where terrorism has had the most impact in the past decade.

A total 158 countries were ranked in the Global Terrorism Index 2011 (GTI) issued by the US  Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP).

The index takes into account the number of terrorist incidents, fatalities, injuries and damage.

Number 8 of 153 countries surveyed, just after Somalia and Nigeria and just before Russia and the Philippines.

Discussion 8 truegrit : The PT government took its position after July 2011. Many of the red shirt protestors were indicted against terrorism in 2011 during the AV's tenure. Study the sequence of recent thailand politcal situations before making an appropriate comment.

Android they are talking about 2011 stats. Over the decade, the unrest reached a pinnacle in 2009, particularly in Narathiwat's Cho Airong district, the IEP report said. Musashi QUOTE "it reached"
This means before AV so that must have been when TS was in charge. I wish the reds would read and understand what is written before they make quotes and make themselves look stupid.

This ranking is the result of the fugitive and his regime and it is getting worse every day.

"Over the decade, the unrest reached a pinnacle in 2009,.."

What a coincidence! Isn't this the time AV was the puppet PM?

Very capable indeed at solving problems for his political stronghold. Perhaps the people in the south should start voting for PTP.

But they do keep patting there selves on the back for drugs enforcement.Your average Thai thinks they are doing well because I doubt this news will hit the general public.A good day to release bad news when the press will be full of birthday celebrations.

Ranked 8th in the world for terrorism with people being killed daily in the south and what is our government doing ? Trying to change the constitution to pardon a fugitive so he can become leader . Stop being so backwards and do your job .

"No insurgent groups had claimed responsibility for more than 85% of the total attacks" is a very unfortunate way to put it. What they likely mean is: "More than 85% of all attacks has not been claimed by any insurgent group".
And today Thailand scored very poor in another area: 37 out of 100 points in the Transparency International's 2012 Corruption Perceptions Index. It's ranking, 88th, is less relevant than the score itself. Although Thailand slipped 8 places on the ranking, its score was better than last year.

Strange to learn that the US Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) does not count those protestors charged with terrorism in the 2010 protest crackdown.
