Thailand slides in graft index

Thailand has slid to 88th place out of 176 in the 2012 Corruption Perceptions Index compiled by Berlin-based Transparency International.

The global anti-corruption organisation has changed its methodology for ranking the 176 countries this year, from previously scoring them on a scale from 0 (highly corrupt) to 10 (highly clean) to 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (highly clean).

Thailand scored 37 out of 100, sharing the same score and ranking with Malawi, Morocco, Suriname, Swaziland and Zambia.

"Following a rigorous review process, some important changes have been made to the methodology in 2012...Given the changes to the methodology, it must be emphasised that country scores of the CPI 2012 cannot be compared against those of 2011 or previous editions." - Transparency International, 2012

The point in all these surveys is that Thailand is declining in safety, education, morality and law enforcement and general preparation for the future . . . or maybe it's a big conspiratorial coincidence by all these reputable sources?

D1&2 - Guys and Girls you can't argue over, or compare, this years rank. Transparency International has changed the methodology used to calculate ranks. "Given the changes to the methodology, it must be emphasised that country scores of the CPI 2012 cannot be compared against those of 2011 or previous editions. Year to year comparisons will be possible from 2012 onwards." So the score stands alone and can't be compared to another year.

No... Pointoffew - Thailand SLIPPED from 80 to 88th position ie got worse.
    And THAT'S what really counts.

Headline tomorrow - Chalerm states, "There is no corruption in Thailand."

Yes, Thailand slid in terms of ranking, and is doing very bad, but Thailand's score is a bit better than year ago - and that's what really counts, isn't it? Not to the BP.
