Engineers restore power on Samui, Phangan

Electricity is back on Koh Samui and Phangan after engineers spent the night successfully restoring electricity, reports said.

Having been without power for three days, residents and tourists on the two islands in Surat Thani woke up with electricity back on at their homes, hotel rooms and businesses.

Channel 3 reported that power was restored at 4am on Friday, two hours after engineers tested the line connecting the islands with Surat Thani's mainland. The repairs finished at 2am, it added.

Since when does Thailand care about Internationale standards. Lest we forget, Mr Suthep was quite clear that Thailand has no respect for the west, i.e. falangs.

At lest in the USA the president has an aide standing by whose job it is to keep the president's foot out of the president's mouth.

Re: D1..Spiceman.Unfortunatly the only farangs that are sent to "the bottom of the sea" are the ones that try to take the job of a Thai union man.

"The electricity supply to the island was cut completely on Tuesday because of a rupture in a section of a 30km-long cable at tambon Taling Ngam in Samui district on the island."

"Acting PEA governor Namchai Lowatthanatrakun said the power cable rupture resulted from a surge in electricity demand from the high tourism season this month."

Maybe the governor should start reading newspapers? Since when does a high demand result in a three day black out?

More profits ,more tourists ,more buildings in the hills and more flood and landslides every year but low investment in infrastructure and poor planning by local authorities.

Forward planning and backup. Something that a lot of Thais have difficulty in understanding. Knowing that it is the high season the PEA have done all the planning and work to put a new cable in in time for next year which is a good idea. The cable should have been put in yaers ago and used as loadsharing.
However any engineer worth his salt will tell you that without a backup supply the system is not worth the money you pay for it.

Maybe a photo opportunity of the Yingluck smiling and pointing out to sea would help sooth things during the crisis?

Uless it becomes a disaster area, the province will not be able to access the 50 million budget. Just saying!

It's time to call Farangs who are specialize in repairing damaged power line at the bottom of the ocean to do the job. For them, repairing a power line in a shallow water between Surathani and Samui should be an easy job for them.
