Abhisit, Suthep opt to stand trial in court

Democrat Party leader and former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said on Friday that he will report to the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) on Dec 13 to acknowledge the charge a charge of murder relating to the 2010 protests and was ready to prove his innocence in court.

He said this after accepting the department’s letter calling him in to acknowledge charges of authorising the killing of anti-government protesters by soldiers during the April-May 2010 violence in Bangkok.

Thaksin thinks he's being clever, but he's not. Just supposing that Aphisit and Suthep were to go to prison and Thaksin returned having whitewashed himself. Does he not realize what street demonstrations will result and the level of street violence that there will be, particularly when his Red Shirt mobs are unleashed upon the demonstrators? People will perceive Thaksin as behaving like a dictator and oppose him. He really should rethink his strategy.

D9 the military are trained to eliminate the enemy, the question we should be asking is why the police did absolutely nothing during the days of demonstrations (reds & yellows), and do absolutely nothing today when the red shirts come out blocking intersections, etc.

I don;t understand the "premeditated" part. No one in their right mind would say Abhisit planned the killing of this specific individual.

"Mr Prompong said Mr Abhisit and Mr Suthep should prove their innocence through the judicial system, instead of accusing the government of trying to force them to support the amnesty plan."

This will back fire on PTP big time. They're showing the opposition leader to be a man while their leader runs like a baby.

RE: D10...Sorry, but I believe if you check you will find that you are mistaken the courts were appointed by the elite and the military in 06, not by the PT. and they were appointed by the enemies of TS who directed the coup. I will let you draw your own conclusions as to if they need to answer to anyone who that might be, but they were not appointed by the present government.

What should worry Thai's both Red or Yellow is not about Abhisit and Suthep, they can look after themselves, but this government using its power and control over the courts to obtain judgments against anyone who they feel is against them.

If this trend continues so call democratic elections won’t be worth holding as the government will control the outcome.

RE: D2 I think you should realize that the DSI has already taken action against most of the red shirts leaders and have filed charges against them. But there are two sides to every story and now the DSI is looking at the other side. The question remains is why the Army did not take the same action as the police did last week and use tear gas and not live bullets for crowd control? Who gave those orders to use deadly force? Were they prudent? If the police had used the same tactics last week and killed a lot of people would you have said it was o/k? I don't think so.

Hopefully the public will be treated to much more of the truth.

Every one know the outcome of this, so the question still there"How was responsible for all this killing" ?

'He had confidence in the country’s justice system, adding that no one is above the law.'

It is indeed a disgrace that not all politicians had the same respect for the country's justice system.
One ex-prime minister fled the country and disrespected the justice system.

Abhisit has basically said "Bring it on."

I wish him the best for his day in court & trust that the judicial system is indeed fair & interprets the law as it should do.

Here is the problem with the CRES who were just 'following orders'. None of them resigned therefore they clearly accepted the actions being taken and indeed carried them out. They are all collectively responsible. It makes no sense at all that only the two civilian politicians are culpable - other than the obvious fact that Khun Abhisit and Khun Suthep are the two politicians that PT most want to get out of the way or at least distract with legal battles
