PEA 'sorry' for blackout on resort islands

The Provincial Electricity Authority has apologised to people on Koh Samui and Koh Phangan after a three-day blackout on the islands ended yesterday.

An official apology will be published and announced through the media, PEA deputy governor Damrongsak Tanrattanakun said.

His statement came after engineers managed to restore electricity on the two resort islands early yesterday.

Sorry to keep bitching but timing is everything. The apology that has yet to be published should have been immediate and not just to the local merchants losing money but to the 20,000 tourists who wasted their money. It also should be coming from the Tourist Ministry and not just PEA. Why is it so hard to apologize? After accidentally hard-bumping somebody do you wait a few hours to apologize? If "Koh Samui is the face of the nation", then they lost face and the Tourism Ministry's inaction has bought them the same result!

What a contrast to the nonsense spouted - again - by Tourism and Sports Minister Chumpol Silpa-archa, who after saying a tourist wasn't raped as she had dinner with her attacker now dismisses the outage as inconsequential as "Thailand has a competitive advantage in tourism and is also a regional hub, and foreigners like to come here." Here's news for him. Those tourists might not agree, and know there are great beaches, temples and shopping elsewhere in the region.
