Poll: Politics 'most corrupt' occupation

Politicians are more corrupt than those in any other occupation, according to a Suan Dusit Poll revealed on Sunday.

Asked which group of people they thought were most corrupt, 45.39% pointed to politicians, 30.24% civil servants, 12.86% police and soldiers and 11.51% businessmen and investors.

Asked their opinion on Thailand being ranked 88th in Transparency International's Corruption Perceptions Index published last week, 33.25% said it was shameful and damaging to the country's image, 28.06% said the problem should be solved immediately, 22.96% felt more concerned about corruption in Thailand, and 15.73% said punitive measures against corruption were still ineffective.

Very true to those career Thai politicians I believe, who never ran a business legally and openly, and could not explain how they acquired huge wealth to pay for their lavish life style (luxury cars, expensive collections, huge houses, farms, big plots of land, etc.).

Remember that politicians are the representation of the voters who voted for them. So, let's ask again, which profession is the most corrupted? Voters, I suppose...

And here is the saddest part. Thai politicians all know that they themselves are corrupt (that’s why they enter politics) and they know the people know they are corrupt. Because the intentional design of the Thai schools is indoctrination not to question or challenge “authority”, corrupt politicians know the people will never pose a threat so could not care less about any betterment of the common Thais. Red shirts? They never would have amounted to anything without their corrupt politician in Dubai.

Too bad the voting majority supports corruption as long as they get a piece .This backward mentality will hold Thailand back for many years to come unless we can somehow shame it of society .Politicians are shameless so no hope for them .

If you looked up the meaning of Thailand it would say Corruption.

The entire Country is built on it and this will never change until voters stop accepting the voting bribes that put people into power with an agenda.

Do anything here phone line, TV Satellite inhalation, land registration (I could go on but there is not enough space)if you want it doing quickly you have to pay an extra fee.

So much lost opportunity here because of the ingrained and tolerated corruption..Thais get the Country they deserve or were bribed for

D5 Ricefield - They didn't ask what people thought about the difference between 2011 and 2012, they just asked what they thought about being 88th in the 2012 survey. A perfectly credible question.

Come on BP the ball is now rolling keep it in the air.The country needs a strong press it is the only way to rid Thailand of this destructive behaviour. Unfortunately the average voter has his head in the sand. They need informing of what it is costing them.I surges without corruption your 300 tbht a day could be raised to 400 may be more without effecting the economy.

Would have been interesting to see the results if the police and soldiers had been in different categories. The BIB might have climbed up quite a bit higher by themselves.

"Asked for their opinion on Thailand being ranked 88th of the countries plagued with corruption" Well that shoots the credibility of the poll all to pieces. According to Transparency Internationals website you can't compare 2011, or before, to 2012 as the methodology has changed but you will be able to compare 2012 onward in the future.
