Police ready for UDD rally

BANGKOK - Police are ready to maintain law and order during tomorrow's rally by the red shirts of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), said Pol Maj Gen Parinya Chansuriya, deputy metropolitan police chief.

The rally, to be led by Pol Lt Col Waipot Arpornrat, Payap Panket and Darunee Kritboonyalai, is to call for the government to proceed with the vote in the third reading of the constitution amendment bill.

Pol Maj Gen Parinya said the red shirts would gather at the Royal Plaza tomorrow morning before marching past parliament, Government House, Democracy Monument, the Supreme Court near Sanam Luang and King Rama VI monument by Lumpini Park, using the Charoen Krung-Rama IV Road-Hua Lamphong-Lumpini Park route.

Discussion 8 - I love your sarcasm. They say sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, but I disagree. That is legendary. I bet your a funny man on the drink...

Strange (or perhaps not) no checkpoints or weapons checks for the reds....

Why are the police called for ? Do they need to protect the reds to have a safeway march to the government buildings and the parliament? It's such a shame what and how the government is running the country in front of all the nations around the world...Shame on you ...

There will be no clearer sign from our government if under 18's are allowed during a Red march, especially compared to their ultra violent history and Pitak Siam's limitation to hold a similar march. This point seems minor to the government and police perhaps but it will swing anyone with a working brain to the opposite camps sooner than later. This is how arrogant they think they are allowed to be.

Anybody have any idea how much this pointless demonstration will cost the fugitive? We all know that red shirts only show up to 'demonstrate' or riot if they get paid in cash, by the man from 'far away'.

Discussion 8..congratulations...you have just produced the most hilarious description of the reds calling them "sensible people holding a rally"...Maybe I should send you my extensive collection of pictures, videos, witnesses and prints about their atrocities during their terror occupation of Bangkok???

The police ready? I never saw them training on TV. I never saw them getting their sticks and tear gas shells ready. I never saw barbed wire fences. Oh my forgot - these are the reds they need not enter any important building or office tomorrow - they do it everyday. They have their hardcore elements in the parliament, in the police and in the military. And ofcourse the government, the P.T, the police, the military and the reds share the same master. The man orchestrating the slow and steady destruction of Thailand from overseas. Errrrr. I never saw Bangkok Post editorials about how this rally is futile, unnecessary or pointless.

Red Shirts are allowed to pass parliament and government house but opposing protesters are not allowed to do so and have been blocked by police with tear gas and barricades.

The low respect, which many of us on this Forum have for the Police, is shared by a lot of Thais. The government TV channels do their best to show the Police in a positive light every day, but I think that their reputation sinks continuously nevertheless. The Police seem to make no effort to try to change the negative aspects of their image. But on the positive side, they tend to be very pleasant, polite, and friendly people, even during the regular shakedowns.
