First terrorism trial hearing postponed

The first hearing of the terrorism case against 24 United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship leaders was on Thursday postponed until Friday because two defendants could not appear before the Criminal Court.

The first examination of witnesses in the case was originally scheduled for today.

In this case, 24 leading members of the UDD - including Veerakan Musikhapong, Jatuporn Prompan, Nattawut Saikuar, Weng Tojirakarn, and Korkaew Pikulthong - are charged with terrorism for their leading role in the UDD protests between Feb 28 and May 20, 2010.

'He said Mr Charan, AKA Yak Loipoon, the 13th defendant, also could not appear at the court because he was being detained in the Ayutthaya prison on charges of attempted murder and violating the Firearms Act'.

No doubt a peaceful UDD demonstrator. Nice company Veera, Jatuporn, Nattawut, Weng and Korkaew etc keep...

Is there no 'Comptent Of Court' in Thailand. It appears that you can turn up when it suits you, If you are the elite that is.

So, deputy (deputy!) commerce minister Nattuwat's presence in the large contingent accompanying the PM on a one-day trip to the South was really, really, that essential that he couldn't attend the court hearing. Yeah, sure

Utterly ridiculous situation having a man accused of terrorism being an MP in the government. We have all seen the youtube videos of the blatant incitement to terrorism, the courts need to move quickly on this outrageous travesty of justice.
