DSI chief defends murder charge

Department of Special Investigation chief Tarit Pengdith on Friday defended the DSI's decision to lay murder charges against former premier Abhisit Vejjajiva and his former deputy Suthep Thaugsuban in connection with the 2010 military crackdown on red-shirt protests.

He also set up an inquiry to find out who was responsible for leaking a photograph that showed Mr Abhisit being fingerprinted on Thursday in a supposedly closed room.

"I will not run away," said Mr Abhisit. "I am not a coward".

I don't have the advantage of being in the middle of all these Thai dramas since I'm not in the country. Thai folks must have adrenalin rush everytime they are watching these events. It seems to be another long running Thai soap. However,I have the perspective of watching from the outside and yes, Thailand is the butt of jokes among Thai watchers here. I hope that someday down the road all these high dramas are leading to a better Thailand. I am sure the cream of the crop will rise to the top. There's a saint somewhere in Thailand among all these crooks. Again, it's sad that Thai people give way to much credit to politicians and ruining lives

This trial is such a joke .Thaksin should be on trial .Not Abhisit .He paid for the protest after he was forced to pay tax .

Mr Tarit is just following orders. Same when he was part of CRES taking orders from Suthep. But this time , bringing false charges against Abhisit and Suthep , may be investigated by the next DSI chief. And many others will be hold accountable for their actions . No job or political party last in power for ever.

What I can't understand is that everyone knows the outcome of this situation, even if found guilty, these people will never spend any time incarcerated in any prison, afterall they are both rich, all you BP readers know the score! Money talks in Thailand, and the world knows it!

I have good eyesight and am color blind to red or yellow or blue. But strictly within the laws and constitution in Thailand, neither Suthep or Abhisit will be found guilty. There is just no way that the case will end in bad news for either of them. The P.T is playing (1) to please the reds and (2) playing it's last card. A move that will bring bloodshed to the country would be for the government to change the constitution in such a way, that Thaksin and reds will be proved innocent of all crimes and Suthep and Abhisit proved guilty of all their 'crimes'. The only way I can see Thaksin coming back innocent is by arranging for a paid coup.

D16: I agree that Thaksin should return and face charges in a real court. I also think he is a fugitive. However I am not talking about Thaksin or defending Thaksin. I am Pro-Democracy and believe if I want to change things I have to wait till the next election and then TRY to elect a party of my choosing. I would be a Facist if I took over the government that was elected by the people.

But here we are talking about Abhisit...not Thaksin.

android - "It makes no difference that AV and Suthep refused to sign acknowledging the conditions set for their release on bail. "

Just as surely as Thaksin had been notified and promised to return if he could go to China.

android and thaksin/PTP/UDD/Redshirt will soon fall. That would be the next thai politics soap opera- would be boring.
NEvertheless, Mr. AV and Mr. Suthep presented to DSI as gentlemen. His followers didnt threatened or bring loud speakers to disturbed but instead they bring flowers.
Mr. AV went to london and came back to face the charges against him.
    Godspeed Mr. AV.

It makes no difference that AV and Suthep refused to sign acknowledging the conditions set for their release on bail. The two had been well informed of the conditions after being cautioned by DSI offficers in the DSI office. Still they are bound by the bail conditions.
