Protest at dog-killer's home

An animal rights group has staged a protest against a German man who stabbed a dog to death and sued its owner.

More than 50 members of A Call for Animal Rights Thailand led by Paveena Weerathamjamras, 31, on Saturday gathered in front of the 65-year-old German's house in Sattahip district of Chon Buri province.

Ms Paveena told Thai Rath that the man killed a two-year-old golden retriever that had bit him on his leg and arm by stabbing it more than 20 times on Nov 12.

@Disc 26 - The dog didn't bite the German on the same day, so you can't argue its self defense.

Any person who would stab a dog to death would kill a human in a heart beat.

The Thai owner called animals rights activists in Bangkok and TV3 to help him and to report in his favor. The reasons are obvious. TV3 showed later the pictures and wounds of this German man. If a dog attacks me on the street, I will defend myself with anything available. You bet on it.

Reading this article, it is clear that the main concern of the mob gathered outside the house is not animal cruelty but to place pressure on a foreigner to withdraw his 300,000 Baht civil suit for being attacked by the neighbour's dog. The newspapers reporting this story should have shown more integrity than getting themselves involved in a petty neighbours brawl.

The overwhelming majority of the comments on this story sicken me and remind once again how much I loathe the 'expat' community here.

A dog bit a kraut who then STABBED it 20 odd times. And again with the racist remarks directed at Thais. I've been bitten and the Thais couldn't have been nicer helping take care of the wound, and NO, they were NOT the owners.

I agree with 'barryw', given what this farang did points up his character and likely provoked the dog. Duh.

Dog ownership takes responsibility, a term seriously lacking in the thai vocabulary.

If dog bites unprovoked! Then it should be put done. If the dog doesn't respond to a raised hand to back off, then it is not a safe dog...most Soi dogs will bark and move in , but will back off if there is no signs from the person of danger..also when they get to know you live in the area the barking etc, stops. If the dog is a house dog , who has become a burden to the owners and left out on the street and becomes aggesive, then it will be killed, if it attacks and bites any member of my family. But it will not be stabbed 20 times,! Squid and rat killer work very well and quickly!

D1 ploydonut: Blog commenting is fun. The downside is we sometimes show people how little we know and how racist we are.

the man was attacked but people defend the dog? This is utter madness. If the man was invading the neighbors home and the dog defended it, is one thing, but I suspect that is not the case. I have noticed that many thais do not take care in training their dogs. However, 20 times seems excessive, it only takes one if you do it right. There is no excuse for animal cruelty, but there is no excuse for letting your dog attack the neighborhood

Thai dog bites foreign man? Clearly, it's the foreigner's fault. Let's lynch him. Amazing Thailand.
