City police have vowed to strictly enforce the ban on lighting fireworks inside entertainment venues during New Year celebrations to prevent a repeat of the Santika pub fire in which 66 people died.
The ban is part of a strategic plan to ensure safety and prevent crimes against property during the 2013 New Year celebrations, deputy national police chief Pansiri Prapawat said on Monday.
Police say fireworks caused the Santika pub inferno, which occurred on New Year's Eve 2008 in Bangkok's Ekamai area. Each patron was given a firecracker to light inside during the countdown.
