We do not know the circumstance of why he is was shot, was he firing a homemade rocket / bomb? shooting a gun? Either way, the government has warned of using "live fire" for weeks. Those who stayed were looking for trouble themselves, follow the law and you won't get hurt, simple as that.

    Disc. 1
Yes, but none of these cases touches on the murder of soldiers.

mogy71 #6, "the question was when will the court start hearing cases abut them ?"
Bangon#7, "Why did Tarit first and only, till today, send 3 cases of dead red shirts to the court?"

"The DSI had taken legal action against hardcore red-shirt protesters. [Since 2010,] It has filed 213 legal cases against red shirts, including 64 cases of terrorism and sabotage and 62 cases of arson, while 295 people on the UDD side have been arrested and prosecuted." - BangkokPost, Dec 7, 2012

The 11 people who so far clicked dislike about my previous comment likely have never been in any military action and know nothing about what a trained soldier does in such a situation.

It's simple. a group redshirts, including the man killed moved, with unknown intent, towards a line of armed soldiers. What did you expect the soldiers to do? Kiss them and hand them flowers. This was urban warfare and the soldiers did exactly what their training told them to do in such a situation.

The bleeding hearts need to grow up, learn a thing or two, and face reality.

So he took part in advancing on and attacking security forces, and people are amazed that the soldiers defended themselves?
Terrorists under the flag of "protesting", are still terrorists.

Why is after so many years that this happens when PT is trying to rewrite the charter ?

While his death is most unfortunate, it is not hard to guess what might have happened. Chartchai made a very bad decision to walk with a group of hostile Red Shirts in presumably a hostile manner towards soldiers with ill-intent while carrying a video camera, which could look like a weapon. Red Shirts had already been shooting at and killing soldiers elsewhere. The soldiers heard continuous bangs from firecrackers, some of which could have been mistaken for guns being fired. It seems that the Red Shirts around him were not shot, just himself, indicating that his video camera caused a soldier to shoot at him in self-defense.

This could only happen in Thailand, where politics is allowed to get completely out of hand and create situations where everyone and issues become so confused that no one can understand the real truth. Governments manage by bureaucratic stupidity, parties are so busy defending themselves and their position that nothing seems to get achieved. In doing so they hide truth, allow corruption to run unhindered and fester in a sea of crass idiocy. There are major issue in Thailand, not least of which are the shocking situation in the South that is degenerating day by day and the drug issue, where ranking police use their position to break the law

Thank you Disc.3 facts_only, but Disc.1 lek's question was: 'When is the Criminal Court going to start hearing...', and mine is: 'Why did Tarit first and only, till today, send 3 cases of dead red shirts to the court?' At the side, what was the price (not money) Tarit had to pay to be allowed to keep his job? Is this it? That man once considered straight forward and not corrupt (that's why he got the job in the first place), now seems to have sold his soul to Thaksin's PTP/UDD. To say nowadays 'his' DSI is biased, is IMO, alas, a big understatement...
