1.3 million speed pills seized

CHUMPHON - Highway Police on Wednesday morning arrested a drug dealer and seized 1.3 million methamphetamine pills, or yaba, with an estimated street value of 390 million baht.

Highway Police chief Pongsit Sangphet said a pickup truck with a Por Mor 45 Chiang Mai (ผม 45 เชียงใหม่) licence plate was stopped at a checkpoint on Phetkasem Road in Chumphon's Muang district.

    They need to take out the clients, not the drivers.

    Why is it always the lowly paid couriers (who are unaware of the real implications of user harm / punishment when arrested) that are targeted!! shouldn't the narcotics division be making some busts higher up the chain now, dissolving a network by taking out key players / financiers is surely more effective than just locking up an endless stream of lowly paid, poorly educated couriers.
    It is a very sad state of affairs, Thai authorities need to adopt new tactics and new ideas on this issue rather than blindly follow a tired rhetoric that criminalises the desperately poor
