Residents shut out of gold mine hearing

Hundreds of residents in Wang Saphung district of Loei cried foul yesterday after they were barred from taking part in a public hearing on the expansion of a gold mining operation in their area.

More than 700 angry residents from six villages in tambon Khao Luang of Wang Saphung district yesterday marched to Loei provincial hall where the hearing was held.

The villagers, who were accompanied by university students and environment activists from Khon Kaen and Maha Sarakham, wanted to take part in a so-called "public scoping" hearing of Tungkum Co's expansion of its gold mining operation in Wang Saphung district.

This absolutely stinks! someone knows what's going on and doesn't give a toss for human life, money is their priority, these people should be shamed and burned! A public hearing with 2000 security personnel and the public are not allowed to take part! only in Thailand! Obviously something is seriously wrong, this shouldn't happen in this day and age, I just pray that the rest of the normal, caring, intelligent and responsible world is looking on, I hope!

The current Govt won't help these Villagers, as there is too much money to be made by the Local Administrators, Minister and so on. Wasn't the PTP the hero of the down trodden farmer and poor villager? Now they show their true colours and what they are in Govt for!

Nothing changes people do not seem to matter providing the money reaches the pockets of the few elite.

Is their a single minister in the government who will help them. I wonder. Sounds like the villagers have legitimate grievances and should be heard.
