3,000 police for Bangkok Countdown

At least 3,000 police will be deployed around the CentralWorld shopping plaza in Bangkok for the annual New Year Countdown celebration.

Metropolitan police spokesman Pol Maj Gen Adul Narongsak said barriers will be put up around the site to control traffic and  metal detectors will be in use to screen revellers.

Organisers and the mall management had been asked to place security guards at all entrances and exits surrounding the event area, and to inspect all suspicious vehicles. Police would also be placed on highrise buildings in the vicinity to guard against any possible attack from projectile weapons.

How will 3,000 Thai Police handle the predicted by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, 1,000,000 foreign tourists plus all the local Thais?

Maybe some people remember the “peaceful demonstration for democracy” in 2010. At that time the police also deployed many many police officers (I don’t know how many hundreds or thousands). But the police allowed at that time street barricades with huge amounts of bamboo and tires. They also did not prevent that lots of war weapons including grenades were transported into the area around Central World. So basically at that time the police was completely useless. Are the 3,000 police this year the same useless crowd like in 2010? Why deploy them at all when they are proven useless?

Gel Adul is on the case with this one, very gung ho and all action.

Is there a way we can ask him what he has done about sorting the Southern policing shambles - I wonder if he was embarrassed that on his watch terrorists could destroy CCTV cameras that are manned 24/7.

That's fewer police than were used to 'control' (restrict) the anti-government rally. Seems the Police are less concerned with public safety than with quashing free speech.
