Ex-communists ask for B650,000

More than 10,000 former communist insurgents from 20 provinces in the Northeast joined a peaceful gathering in Khon Kaen Monday to demand the government compensate them at a higher rate for their integration into mainstream society.

The group urged Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to speed up the payment to assist them under the so-called Prime Minister's Office order No. 66/23, a policy that put a political solution before military means to end the communist threat in the 1980s.

Abbub is right. However, Abhisit said he would take care of it so tell them to wait till he comes to power again. Prem made the promise to keep the peace. Maybe they could take him to court and it will be thrown out because he made the promise in what could be considered under duress.

Abbub D8: Forget about Thai history, you seem to have forgotten the history of man. The commies were given a face saving choice, 1) be overrun and killed or 2) accept compensation that was a wink and a nod and would never come. Historically, government don't pay small groups to not try to overthrow them.

Maybe the military solution was a better option........

All they need to do is to look at what their fellow Ex-Commies in China have been doing with spectacular result, which is to embrace Capitalism, get off their butts, and get busy!

comments up to and including D7 show a lack of knowledge about Thai history.

P*** "negotiated" a peace with the communists. In return for laying down arms they were to receive compensation. P*** was hailed as a great negotiator who saved the country. Maybe he was. But...

...the government did not keep its side of the bargain. It took 30 years before some of these former communists received the same sum promised, without considering the difference in value of money.

They're not looking for a free handout, but for the deal offered to be honored.

Nor did the communists did not take up arms again. They have kept their part of the ba

Compensation is a cop out solution .This was back in the 80s .How have these people survived since then ?What nonsense .Whats the point of having laws if you just hand compensation to everyone who threatens to break them .Pathetic .

This country is unbelievable. People seem to think that no matter what happens, they always deserve compensation for it.
They build a house on the river bank and then demand compensation when it gets flooded.
They go out on the streets under the guise of "protesting" and act like terrorists, and then demand compensation when the soldiers that they attack fight back.
They choose to be communists and then demand compensation to get back to work.

Stop it already with all the effin "compensations". People need to learn to take responsibility for their own damn actions and decisions.
