The great holiday exodus

The traffic jams have been building since Friday as all of Bangkok seemed to want to get out of the city for the New Year. A total of 71 people died in road accidents on the first two "dangerous days" of the holiday, while upcountry, cars are not being allowed into the two largest national parks.

A total of 38 people were killed and 504 injured in 495 road accidents nationwide on Friday, Ruenvadee Suwanmongkol, director-general of the Probation Department, reported on Saturday.

The casualties followed 33 fatalities on Thursday, the first day of the "seven dangerous days" road safety campaign over the New Year holidays, running from Dec 27 to next Wednesday.

ploydonut. I believe keeping cars out of wildlife habitats and using shuttle buses better, don't you?

"The traffic jams built up all day Friday as all of Bangkok seemed to want to get out of the city for the New Year." Good! Now don't let the cars come back - traffic problem solved.

D3 ploydonut - You have obviously never dealt with wildlife before, large animals will jump a fence and small animals will dig under to get to where they want to go. Plus the parks and forests were theirs long before we came along. It is we humans that must watch out for them and allow them space to live. Keeping cars out and using buses is a fantastic idea for places like Doi Inthanon, and should be done year round.

I am think there should be more activity to do in the national park. For example more elephant for riding, and the monkey show, or make open zoo, because sometime nothing to do for the children except see the green tree.

I am think that can put the electric wall by the road in the park so animal cannot go onto road and so can not dead by the car. It also help keep animal in the park otherwise they all run away.
