Dems order governor to toe the line

Sukhumbhand backed, but conditions apply

The Democrat Party is attempting to rein in Bangkok governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra's "maverick" governing style.

Party bosses have told him they are willing to field him as a candidate for re-election next year only on condition that he is more accountable to the party and listens to its advice, sources say.

Democrat and opposition leader Abhisit Vejjajiva officially announced MR Sukhumbhand as the Democrats' candidate Friday.

D4 Canuck - Can you show me any Thai leader that did not have "many reports of corruption" during their time in office? So I suppose we shouldn't trust any of them including your current darlings?

He has yet to choose an auspicious day to leave his governor's seat, he said.

Did he wait for an 'auspicious day' to START his tenure? Didn't work, did it.

"There have been many reports of corruption under his authority. How can you trust this man?" Unlike Chalerm and all the rest of Thai politicians ...

Due to the wavering, uncertain support between each other and more than obvious lack of public support on this subject. The Democrats should reconsider their intended policies, otherwise the outcome could be detrimental to their future.

RE: D3. You are correct and almost every one of these major project is full of corruption on a grand scale. The BTS is just an example of how blatant this has become and the fact that the DP is endorsing him tells you all you need to know. All parties are corrupt and the public treasury is their personal piggy bank.

PTP wants to introduce the man in uniform to run for BKK. governor. If he wins election I can bet my life that he will wear 2 hats and earn 2 salaries.

The Democrat thought that two wrongs will make it right.

A statement by Abhisit. "he would have to cooperate more with the Democrat Party."
This is an admittance of non-compliance, which Sukhumband has proven during his present tenure. A few of his shortcomings are brought up in this topic.
The Democrats may have made a big mistake here.
