PM: No rush to amend charter

The government will not rush to amend the constitution but will give a higher priority to restoring the climate of reconciliation in the country, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said on Sunday.

"Building a climate of reconcilation that is free from conflict is much more important than amending the constitution in order to strengthen the country's economy and security. Constitutional amendment is also important but not urgent. It would not be good if amendments lead to a conflict," the prime minister said.

But Ms Yingluck said a working committee is considering whether to hold a referendum before the amendment, as well as to recommend whether to amend the charter section by section or proceed with voting on the charter amendment bill now with parliament and awaiting its third reading.

Both reconciliation and a constitution change is important for this great country. With a democratically elected government (PTP or the DP) for the full term, and NO more military coups or conflict, it can truly be the 'Land of Smiles'. Maybe PM Yingluck is trying seriously to get Thai's to become more focused on their country and not themselves?? But we'll see how many Thai's really want it.

Well well Ma'am, another 180 degree, what's new. May I humbly suggest that you and your government think before opening your collective mouth's, this daily "news" is becoming very unconvincing, even for your die-hard supporters. Indeed there are many way more important situations to tend to, you were told this many times before. For a long list of important things please keep on reading the BKK Post for one, and Postbag in particular.

So we will bide our time to get Thaksin back, in a few months people will forget about it, and we will push it through, Thai's generally forget about things very quickly!!!!! Good Thinking PM.

If there is no rush to amend the Constitution, does it means that it is not that important? If yes, my next question is why should we be bothered with it at all? At the moment, under the leadership of PM YS, Thailand is relatively stable and prosperous, so why should we ruin that?

In other words, we will write the charter with a 'Peua Thai' pen whether you like it or not, all we're trying to do now is sell it as reconciliation to 60% of the population so we can the other 40% to wind their necks in. Who writes her speeches anyway, they're so unconvincing.

PTP must be knee deep in tea leaves and almost out of sacrificial chickens trying to decide what to do.

D1 is right, when they think they can they will ram this through TS's moomoo claim was a diversion

Politicians like FM Surapong saying he wants to sign binding international agreements on his own have guaranteed PTP will lose any referendum.

Let me get out my Peua Thaksin decoder ring - PTP will ramrod the charter change through as soon as they think they can. They are simply worried it will not pass - because in reality they don't have even a basic majority behind them. Next, someone, anyone, needs to come up with a REAL alternative, and PTP will be finished forever.
