Government readies campaign for ICJ ruling

The Foreign Ministry is launching a campaign to prevent the politicisation of the pending International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruling on the disputed area around the Preah Vihear temple.

Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul said a campaign to educate the public about the Preah Vihear dispute will proceed throughout the year, with the ICJ ruling expected to be delivered in October.

Documentary programmes on the issue will be broadcast on state media outlets, while the ministry will also work with the Interior Ministry to ensure the public is properly informed about the case.

Until now, the Military has been made bad use of the border-dispute of the Preah Vihear temple for raising their approval rating(%) on the General election. In Thailand, the border-dispute had been occured frequently around the border-area. As a result, many peoples -including soldiers- lost their life by a dispute.
To get all the use out of people's life and then discard it for win the General election is wrong. And, usually the Military must act in according to the decision of the Parliament under the democracy of Thailand.

Unfortunately when he was PM Abhisit was a very poor advocate of Thailand's best interests on this issue. He did not step back and think through what solution would advance the prosperity of both Thai and Cambodian people living in the border area around the Preah Vihear temple, but instead got carried away on a wave of spurious Thai nationalism whipped up primarily by the PAD. The current Thai government should of course put Thai interests first, but the latter don't involve winning the dispute with Cambodia at the ICJ. Rather they lie in agreeing through ASEAN a cross-border regional development plan with Cambodia for the area.

Disc 7 - The ICJ and the ICC are separate jurisdictions neither of which has been appointed by a junta, had laws passed to be used retroactively or have made rather odd decisions, like some Thai courts.

"What frightens us is that some groups will manipulate people to do bad things if they don't like the verdict," [Surapong] said.

Try explaining that to Robert Amsterdam when he takes the other case to the ICJ/ICC. Isn't that what started Ratchaprasong, the refusal of someone to accept a verdict, thereby manipulating a crowd to do bad things?

Border demarkation is supposed to be based on accurate and truthful information of distinct natural landscaping features like mountains, hills, streams, and etc. However, in reality, it can be anything any imminently more powerful nations want it to be. The UK's border once included Hong Kong, and still covers N Ireland and the Falklands. Chinese border includes Tibet, and will soon include the Spratly Islands also. So, until we have courage to draw our own borderline, instead of relying on others to draw it for us, this is what happens. I congratulate Cambodia for their sweet victory, and am sorry for Thailand's well-deserved defeat.

"Defying the court ruling will land Thailand in trouble. We have to explain to the public what the previous government did that prompted Cambodia to go to the ICJ," he said.
And the very first thing that Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul did was to politicise it and put the blame on the Democrats wether it was them or not.
    Reconciliation and democracy PTP style.

In those days, When Every suzerain power state withdrawing from colonies, they returned their home after sowing the seeds of strife on purpose around the border-line in Asia like India-Pakistan, India-Tibet, Cambodia, etc for maintaining a leader-country in these colonies after the World WarⅡ. Their purpose is to occur a border-dispute in Asia after their withdrawing. So, To raise a war against a neighboring country, it is a scenario of the former colonizing nations. So, A peaceful resolution is better than an endless border-dispute for an economic growth of ASEAN.

Sounds like a propaganda mission to place blame on Khun Abhisit's administration. Thailand needs to be prepared for the loss. We shall see if they will really do what they have been saying and honor what the ICJ rules.

Disc 1 - I agree with you that the map is not accurate by today's standard but the fact remains that it is the map that both sides agreed on. In the temple area the Cambodians gain but in other areas Thailand gained. That's something people don't often notice on a long border. If the land around the temple was to be given to Thailand then there are other areas, much larger in area, that should be returned to Cambodia. Herein lies the problem.
