raimund, I think you have this backwards. No one refused orders. The police wanted *volunteers* to go to the South, and many did not volunteer. Volunteers are far, far better than police who are ordered to go. They aren't some common soldier. These are important, detective jobs with a lot of contact with local people. Ordering people to go almost guarantees you will get some/all bad policemen. That happened in the 1980s and it was a disaster for everyone - and a real help for the PULO terrorists.

@ discussion 4 - Probably guaranteed promotion at the end of the two years. Most commissioned police go no higher than Police Lt Col.

Why do not allow policemen with an open mind to accept orders and also deny. Pol Lt Gen Khamronwit should have cleaned all the inactive posts instead and send to the South. Why not send police generals ,who should be experts, over there? Still too many in the force.

Middle ranking? They are lieutenant colonels. That's a bit higher than I ever got in the Army!

Stevey, this isn't about the army. So tell us, how about if a policeman in Melbourne is transferred to Mackay? He has to go, right, no appeals allowed? Or ... hmmm, or maybe policeman in Australia aren't transferred from their home states at all? Or even from one city to another, like Melbourne to Mackay?

As a member of the Australian Defence Force for 12 years, we had to accept all postings. Of course preferences were taken into account however it was operational requirements that ultimately determined your next location. Families moved as they knew it was part of the life of a defence family. Those protesting against southern postings need to stop acting like babies and accept the responsibilities of their roles.
