Parties trade barbs over Preah Vihear

Surapong denies giving up Preah Vihear fight

BANGKOK - The opposition Democrat Party has accused the Pheu Thai-led government of being subservient to Cambodia in the Preah Vihear Temple dispute.

Democrat spokesman Chavanond Intarakomalyasut on Saturday expressed concern over statements by Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul about the case.

Mr Surapong has cautioned people to be prepared for any outcome, including a loss, when the International Court of Justice (ICJ) makes its decision in October.

I honestly think most of Thais don’t understand the true feelings of all Cambodian. It is not about the temple or the land connected or surrounded the temple or the future mineral, oil, money, and tourist; but it is PRIDE, integrity, and sense of connection and belonging to our majestic Khmer ancestor. Like many ruined Khmer temples throughout Thailand, Lao, and Vietnam; Khmer ancestor built those temples and the ICJ verdict confirmed that in 1962.

Khmer people see Thais want to connect, share, and cling on to something that is not theirs. So for this reasons in their eyes, it is unethical and wrong. And these judgments gave them a g

Some kind of shared arrangement would be the most practical to resolve the dispute, but it seems unlikely, and it would be silly for ICJ to confirm that the land belongs to Thailand and that the temple belongs Cambodia but it is possible because the UN is a vary silly organization.

    Cambodia, Laos, Thailand are the brothers countries from many years ago through a similar-Language, a similar-religion, a similar-Culture, a silimar-foods, a similar-music, a similar-people's face, a similar-DNA, etc.
So, Stop a dispute about the succession in Asia. "Quarrel is Nonsense !" It's a waste of time for developing the Indochina peninsula. Hope a peaceful resolution with a tolerant mind !!

I think it's all about the right to set up shops to sell their wares to tourists coming to see Bhuddha site.

Would've thought the fact that the temple doesn't have lots of glittery bits and brightly painted statues would've been a slam dunk it belongs to Cambodia and not Thailand.

Is it really impossible for Thailand and Cambodia to declare a shared area: Cambodia gets the temple (against which lazy Thai politicians did not fight) and Thailand has the access land. Hun Sen and his compatriots cannot get into the place without going through Thai territory unless they are to scale the mountain! What we do know is that the politicos on both sides will be fighting issues (that have little to do with the Temple) they do not tell us about. Is the man in Phnom Penh still in fraternal relationship with the man in Dubai?

#7, Jack you are not totally correct about Alsace Lorraine (15000 km2). The 14 points of T W Wilson contained the right to the auto determination for some European people but it didn't concern the Alsace Lorraine. Point 8: "All French territory should be freed and the invaded portions restored, and the wrong done to France by Prussia in 1871 in the matter of Alsace-Lorraine, which has unsettled the peace of the world for nearly fifty years, should be righted, in order that peace may once more be made secure in the interest of all."

We know that we should always believe the opposite to what the politicians say. Are they really going to contest the decision? I am wondering if a deal has been struck with Cambodia that will benefit certain people; hence this outcome. Things don't happen by accident. Decisions are made with personal benefit in mind.

Another idea! If the IJC rules that part of the land around the Temple belongs to Cambodia too, why not make a swap somewhere of equal size along the border where the Thais would get more land much more useful for productive agriculture, etc., than a rocky mountainside full of yet discovered buried mine explosives Win-Win & face saving for both sides.
