Police called on to help save Supreme Court building

In a desperate move to protect the Supreme Court building in Bangkok, the Fine Arts Department filed a complaint Saturday with police seeking to halt the demolition of the historic structure.

JUDGEMENT DAY: A photo taken on Friday shows the left wing of the Supreme Court building, which used to house the Criminal Court, has been torn down.

Sahawat Naenna, head of the Fine Arts Department, insisted the department is authorised to safeguard the building under the 1961 Historical Buildings Act. It was constructed in 1939 during the era of Field Marshal Pibulsonggram.

What were the terms of the mission given to the architects? Who signed the contract with the architects? Who gave the go to the architects' project? Who delivered a building permit for a project in contradiction with the basic rule of 16m. maximum elevation? Who, what, when, uncover the names of persons having undersigned official and registered documents, they can't sue anyone for slander on those facts, not even in Thailand, so, please, BP journalists and researchers, dig, and let us know!

Funny how the business of politically controlled (corrupt) building contracts rips apart a place isn't it?

In Thailand laws only apply to those without influence.

The action of the Fine Arts Department is too little and way too late. Why not just let it go and start looking for some other buildings around the country to be 'saved'?

Arther Erickson or Frank Lloyd wright inspired this building ain't. A shoebox with a cornice is not historical architecture worth saving.
